Research Team Mason Macklem Mason S. Macklem received the Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics in 2000 from Okanagan University College. He recently completed the Masters of Science degree at Simon Fraser University; his thesis discussed on measures of perceptual quality of digital images, specifically focusing on DCT-based encoding standards. During his Master's degree, he was also a Research Assistant at Packeteer Canada. He is presently a PhD student at Simon Fraser University, where he is involved with the CoLab and the Centre for Experimental and Constructive Mathematics. He is a student member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and of the Society of Photonics and Interface Engineers. His research interests in clude continuous optimization, derivative-free optimization, image compression, vector quantization, pattern recognition, human vision modeling, and mathematical optical character recognition.
